About this Project:

Swillington Primary School, alongside Brigshaw High School, plus 6 other feeder Primary Schools are collectively known as The Brigshaw Co-operative Trust. This trust allows the school to establish partnerships with Leeds City College, the Co-operative Trust, Carnegie leaders in learning, Cape UK and Leeds City Council.

Working underneath the trust, all the schools work alongside each other to achieve a shared vision for raising accomplishments.

Swillington Primary School in Leeds was constructed using PHPP energy modelling and featured full Passivhaus design.

Achieving Passivhaus certification in 2012, this school is one of only a few non-domestic Passivehaus-certified buildings in the UK.

Linear Control Systems Ltd took on the installation and management of the Passivhaus project for Swillington Primary School.

The installation entailed a mechanical ventilation system with highly efficient heat recovery, helping the school heat and ventilate at little cost.

A Passivhaus building provides a high level of occupant comfort while using very little energy for heating and cooling. They are built with meticulous attention to detail and rigorous design and construction practices; according to principles developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany. These factors can be certified through an exacting quality assurance process.

Completed by Interserve working in partnership with Leeds City Council and supported by Linear Controls, Swillington Primary School in Leeds is one of only a few non-domestic Passivhaus-certified buildings in the UK.
