Leeds City Council Decarbonisation Scheme.

Leeds City Council – Leeds PIPES

LCSL are carrying out full Building Management System (BMS) upgrades to four prestigious Leeds City Council sites. These sites are the Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds Civic Hall, Leeds City Museum & Leeds Town Hall.

All sites have been upgraded from Trend to Tridium Building Management Systems and incorporate the new controls for the city-wide Leeds PIPES network. Work at each building was carried out simultaneously whilst all buildings were fully occupied and open to the public. This ensured day-to-day council operations were maintained without any period of disruption.

In total over 30 control panels were retrofitted with new controllers, all new network wiring and fully recommissioned following the upgrade. Each site was provided with a new front end Niagara 4 supervisor for local level access and ready for future integration onto the side wide Leeds City Council Network.

LCSL were employed as specialists directly by LCC to help integrate and improve the energy management of each site and engage in the new decarbonisation scheme. Each site is now fully reliant on the site wide PIPES (District heating scheme) utilising energy for waste technology and removing the need for gas on each site.

Supporting the Council’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030

Leeds City Council is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. They are doing this by many means, however they are looking to reduce the dependence on gas, by utilising both energy powered from waste and air source heat pumps.

Working with Alternative Heat and Leeds City Council, LCSL have carried out the controls integration and software implementation to help support a new energy saving strategy to utilise the ASHP’s as a primary method of delivering heat to the following leisure facilities within the city:

Airborough Leisure Centre

John Smeaton Leisure Centre

Kippax Leisure Centre

Kirkstall Leisure Centre

Rothwell Leisure Centre

Scott Hall Leisure Centre

South Leeds Leisure Centre

Tropical World Leeds

Wetherby Leisure Centre

Additionally, we have worked with Alternative Heat and Leeds City Council on an enhanced energy saving strategy at the following primary schools within the city:

Bardsey Primary School
Farsley Primary School
Hawksworth Primary School
Hollybush Primary School
St. James Primary School
