About this Project:

The new York St John Creative Centre is a purpose-built, 3-storey creative space where bold architecture meets innovative facilities.

The Creative Centre opened in 2022 and is the new permanent home for our music and computer science courses. It also contains specialist spaces for our theatre, drama, creative writing, and media production students.

First opened to students in October 2021, the York St John Creative Centre provides a permanent new home for those studying music and creative arts at the university.

The centrepiece of the Creative Centre is the 170-seat theatre with a large stage and brand new lighting and sound systems. The theatre hosts live student performances, community events and high profile conferences.

Computer science facilities

A whole floor of purpose-built teaching rooms offers the latest high-specification hardware for computer science, software engineering and games development. We work with the Institute of Technology for Yorkshire and the Humber to deliver teaching and research side by side.

Music and performance spaces

The Creative Centre provides a new base for music students at York St John. Facilities include specialist teaching spaces and acoustically-protected practice and performance rooms.
