Hepworth Art Gallery, Wakefield
About this Project:
The Hepworth Art Gallery has been labelled, by The Independent, as one of the most supreme contemporary art museums in the whole of Europe. Spanning across 1,600 square meters of gallery space, The Hepworth Art Gallery is officially the largest purpose-built exhibition arena outside of the capital city.
Bringing together rare pieces from Barbara Hepworth and other contemporary artists from the Wakefield area, this building offers a wealth of culture and artistic appeal.
The gallery also contains a café, learning studio, conference venue and a number of shops.
The Design of the Hepworth Art Gallery, Wakefield, brings the outdoors in, while the intelligent Building Management System protects valuable art from deterioration and has simultaneously achieved impressive energy cost savings.
Building Management System protecting art & culture while utilising River Calder
Linear Control Systems Ltd was appointed to specify, install and commission the intelligent BEMS for the entire site. To give the site manager an accurate view of energy-consumption patterns, the Desigo BEMS produces reports through Desigo Insight. This information can then be accessed remotely via the internet.
Insight makes it easy to pinpoint where and how energy is being used and it can track against set targets and show archiving and trending data on humidity and temperature. These two factors are extremely important when housing delicate and expensive pieces of art.
Sitting on the bank of the River Calder, our installed BMS promotes more environmentally friendly operations by using the river water within its cooling system to maintain adequate room temperature. This is part of a sustainable and highly integrated building service agenda designed to achieve an excellent BREEAM rating.
