About this Project:

The new Manchester Metropolitan University Business School and Student Hub is an innovative building that opened in 2012; as part of a huge overhaul that saw seven campuses consolidated into two.

The new 20,000sq metre state of the art building incorporates three individual towers and two atrium areas connecting the three towers. It boasts not only world-class teaching and learning facilities for 5000 students and 250 staff, but also catering and leisure areas for all students.

Manchester Metropolitan University also holds conference venues which will draw companies and industry associations to the city from across Europe and beyond.

Manchester Metropolitan University is certified ‘Excellent’ under the BREEAM environmental assessment scheme and also boasts many other awards recognising its green credentials.

BEMS Description

The building itself boasts incredibly strong green credentials with the use of renewable energy sources, energy efficient heating and a pioneering chilled concrete slab cooling system. All of this is controlled and monitored via the Cylon building energy management system designed and commissioned by Linear Controls Systems Ltd.

The site has its own graphical user front end supervisory PC allowing control and monitoring of the system. This is accessible across the entire MMU network.

Manchester Metropolitan University has since been certified ‘Excellent’ under the BREEAM environmental assessment scheme.

The Cylon UC32 framework consists of over 4000 BEMS points across several LAN networks; from natural ventilation control (utilising Linear Controls’ in-house combined intelligent CO2) to temperature and humidity sensors, over MODBUS. Over 100 utility meters are connected across the site, linked to the active energy cloud, for monitoring and targeting at Cylon HQ.
